Flood Protection and Prevention

There are over 2 million properties at risk from flooding in the UK. Many will be directly affected by rivers flooding but more homes are damaged indirectly by the backflow of sewage. The causes include severe rain storms, flooding, breakdown of pumping plant and blocked pipelines.

All furniture, electrical, entertainment and personal effects are beyond recovery due to contamination.
Plaster on walls and timber floors may need to be replaced along with electrical wiring and carpets.
The process of drying out can take months, during which the property is often uninhabitable. Contaminated belongings and waste material is removed to a tipping facility where it adds approximately 10 cubic metres to landfill for each affected property.

Financial loss from flooding
The financial losses caused by sewage flooding events are known to be in the region of £30,000 to £40,000 per property. In a very short time a house or basement flat can flood with untreated sewage to a depth greater than 1 metre.

"The distress to occupants is beyond calculation. No amount of money can replace possessions of a life time."

Flood protection services
Bluesky also have experience in the set up of flood barriers, flood gates, airbrick flood covers.

Bluesky are able to install non-return valves to both drainage and plumbing systems to prevent backflow occurring.

We also install a non return valve with a back-up pump system which prevents flooding upstream of the valve. Another option is a pumping station which would remove waste from areas below the normal main sewer levels.
